Coed-y-Mwstwr Rustic Wedding | Kirsty + Neil
Kirsty and Neil
I’ve known Kirsty for some years, personally and professionally. Kirsty is an incredible makeup artist and is hands down the person I see at weddings the most. Which is great for me as I know she'll do an amazing job and is also one of the suppliers I always recommend. You can see some of my recommendations (soon to be updated) in my Wedding Suppliers List.
Before the wedding I asked a few questions to get some background on their relationship.
How Long Have You Been Together?: 6 years
Where Did You First Meet?: On a blind date in Porthcawl
Where Did You Get Engaged?: We got engaged 5 years ago, at home. Neil's plan was to propose at the beach where we met, after arranging it all he realised the tide would be in so had to change plan. He asked a friend to set up our cottage with flowers, candles and champagne while we were out, and when we got home that's when he got down on one knee. The funny part was as I looked over his shoulder just after saying yes, the heart layout of candles had all merged together in one big flame and set the coffee table alight! Haha!
Why Did You Choose Your Wedding Venue?: We looked around several venues this time last year bearing in mind the time of year we knew we wanted to get married. We loved the woodland vibe of the coed y mwstwr, the open fires and the food and staff! We figured it if it rains it's a lovely venue to be tucked up inside of too!
This was not your typical bridal preparation before a wedding. With the majority of the women in the room working in makeup everyone got ready with very little fuss. As mentioned Kirsty being a makeup artist herself there was a running joke on who would be doing her makeup. Kirsty got ready in one of the gorgeous rooms air Court Colman along with her four bridesmaids. It was lovely see something a little different with her flower crown and cape veil, which suited the time of year perfectly.
I love the entrance at Court Colman, a very long aisle which always looks awesome in photos. Kirsty walked in after her son and bridesmaids with her dad. Her son Rowan didn't seem too happy with walking down the aisle until he saw his dad standing at the end. I love the cheeky photo of him below just before they walk back down the aisle after tying the knot.
With the winter night drawing in the later reception had a lot of winter touches. Lots of little lights and candles adorned the tables and the room dressed with a rustic theme of flowers. Despite storm Callum gripping the UK getting outside for photos wasn't looking great. There was a small gap in the torrential rain right when we wanted it so we took advantage. Confetti photos and a handful of shots of the two of them we were rushing back in to avoid the rain.
The Wedding Party
The evening entertainment provided by the excellent Audiojaxx. A band who I always recommend. Along with them being good friends, Rhodri, the drummer, asked me to shoot their wedding (which was my first one) over 10 years ago.
